The hillside of Choëx is located 600 meters above sea level between the town of Monthey, at the entrance to the Rhône valley, and the small resort of Les Giettes. Monthey is best known for its carnival, one of the biggest in French-speaking Switzerland. It also benefits from its proximity to the Portes du Soleil, in the Val d'Illiez. Today, Monthey is the main industrial city of Valais.

The Monthey region is also known for its erratic blocks. They were transported by the Rhône glacier from the Mont-Blanc massif more than 15,000 years ago and are mainly made up of granite. They are exploited by Italian workers from 1850 to be used in various works, such as the church of Monthey. They are now part of the Federal Inventory of Landscapes, Natural Sites and Monuments and are thus protected.
