Among other grape varieties, Pinot Noir prefers sun-scorched soil rich in limestone scree; now this terroir of an ideal composition, we find it in the basin of Salquenen / Salgesch, formed following a landslide of the mountain of Varone. This landslide, which occurred between 5000 and 7000 years BC, gave the vineyard its incomparable terroir, which is normally only encountered from an altitude of 1200 to 1800 meters.
